I absolutely love photographing military families! They’re truly remarkable. Every time I photograph a Navy Homecoming, I’m reminded of the strength and resilience of military families. They’re one of the prime examples of couples that are working hard to make things work when a spouse and/or parent is away for a long duration. They withstand the time apart in order to make for a better future, together.
On February 22, 2018, I had the privilege of photographing Jayde and her fiancé/Navy Petty Officer (Zach) during the homecoming of the USS Virginia (SSN 774) at the Naval Submarine Base in New London, CT. It was a cloudy and partially rainy day, but that didn’t stop the high spirits of all the excited military spouses/significant others, patiently waiting for their beloved sailors to finally return home!
Jayde was kind enough to invite me to join her and her family for breakfast the morning of the homecoming. The bacon, egg and waffle breakfast wasn’t just delicious, it was also a unique chance for me to learn more about this Navy family so I could better predict how each of them would react when Zach finally stepped off the sub. This was especially true of Zach’s daughter, Judy, who was was a little shy until her daddy returned home. From that point on, she was all smiles!
Finally, I’d like to say to Jayde & Zach: congratulations and have an amazing wedding day! I’m so happy you two are reunited, and here’s to an amazing life together!
